Pass the chips...

Poker chips are wonderful things. As one found on badbloodonpoker.blogspot.com, "Money is an abstraction of Labor; Chips are an abstraction of Money."

Of course.. it costs money to buy them, and then they represent more money. hmm...

Clay chips are the way to go. I found some great chips at Target. For $40, you can get 240 4-color clay chips. They feel so good, and are much better than those cheap plastic sets (100 chips for 3 bucks) and even the carosels with plastic chips. My friend has some; they feel like they should be much heavier, but they are way too light. I feel like I can break them. (But he has a pool table to play on, so its all good :D )

pokerchips.com has some decent sets, but i haven't gotten enough money to buy any. If I have really good run, maybe i'll splurge and buy some...

Poker and Pizza (Cafeteria pizza.. however...)

You know how hard it is to find a poker game.. when you are 17 and still in high school?? Its popular, but basically, you'll go to a football game, and a poker game will break out. Played on pool tables and dinner tables, it doesn't work that well.

Then there is always 4th lunch. Daily game, $5 buy-in, .25/50 stakes, and we use old playing cards (i colored mine! wOOt!) for .25 chips. Yeah.. its ghetto, but it works, and we don't get caught by the admins. They can't prove the cards are chips and that we're playing for cash, so it looks perfectly innocent in their eyes.

But you can't make much cash that way. I'm only down 8 bucks, but still, everyone is pretty much up or down 15 dollars at the max. Its fun, but doesn't provide much in the way of finacial aid. So I can't make much money, which is what i want to do on the side with poker.

However, I'm almost 18!! One month to go, and i'm legal to go online. Hopefully i can start making some money there, because right now, i have no job (i just get an allowance) and live poker isn't enough right now...

Anyway, I'll hopefully update this blog a couple times a week. I'll be posting some poker insight, as seen from a young hopeful...
