The wonder that is 2-card Omaha 8/B...

Someday (probably tomorrow) I shall talk about my success with taking 5 free dollars and making a decent bankroll out of it.. If fact, that should be the point of my blog, building a bankroll with the intention of going to the WSOP in 2008.

Just like any other tv-raised poker player. :D

Anyway, tonight... live blogging of my omaha 8/b .25/.50 endevors.

-- TQJK, flops two pair against a raising shortstack, they go all-in with, what else, AA95. +25
-- Hit an ace-high flush on the turn, Q-high flush pays me off while I split with a decent low. +15
-- Limp/call raises with shoddy hands. ALWAYS happens after I start winning.. a bad leak. -10
-- 777Ax board... realize my pair of aces doesn't work as a full house. But my KK does as the second best. Double the 5 dollar bet by the SB... he pays me off QQ, no low, and I rake. +20

....

fuck.

...

Raise from a loose-player.. either means AA or A2.. i call with QT23 suited. A8K, two diamonds. I have the nut flush draw and the nut low draw. I get 4 to 1 odds on a pot bet... call. T on the turn. He goes all in, one call, and I'm getting 3 to 1. hmm.. call.

A on the fucking river. damn. I'm going to have to check the odds on this one. That way I can check if I just donated.. or missed. hmm. -45.

BTW.. one had Quad aces, another had nothing at all but a gutshot, and one had a lower flush draw. Damn. A low diamond, and I would have scooped. High diamond, probably scoop. (unless it pairs the board..) low card..

Two dimes result:

Sweet. Don't feel like a fish right now. Had huge odds on the flop, and even odds on the turn.

Just wish I hit though... 137 dollar pot.. but could have probably gotten more out of the 53 low guy. Oh well, i'm even. I've doubled up before, I'm going to do it again. Hell, I will triple up. I guarantee it!

Either way.. I at have my 25 UB points to comfort me.

Wow. Just wow.

wow.
just wow.
The cards I saw being played.
wow.

Didn't know J5 could win such huge pots.

But then again, so could quad 10's. (And that was paid off by AK.)

Almost every hand was over 20 BB. But, of course. Especially when people were saying "I thought this was a no limit tourney."

Donkeys.

----

My performance? KK went down to 22... (Thought he was overplaying TPTK with AQ, I mean.. he did raise PF), and then just got blinded out, while watching in amazement as other premium hands went down in fire.

Good lesson, though. I learned a lot about limit hold-em tourneys. Especially that blinds rise way too fast on UB. The NLHE tourney's blinds go up much slower.

There's a leak, and I just found it.

But how in the world do I plug it up?

---

Playing in a .25/.50 cash game. 400 dollars on the table, due to MULTIPLE rebuys by the fish. Me like.

Dealt pocket 9's UTG (6-handed at this point.) I raise to 2.5 dollars, and get called by the BB. Ragged flop, 37T. I disregard the Ten, because this player just doesn't have that Ten. I know he doesn't, so I bet out the pot when he checks to me. He calls. Kind of a weird call.. but I've seen worse from this player, so A7 is definately possible, especially if he put me on overcards.

Turn is another rag, completing the rainbow, and making it very hard to make a straight. He checks again, and I push. He pushes his equally even stack and flips over one 7.

Then another 7.

f***. (Btw, no two-outer for me.)

----

Now, how do I avoid this? Is this just part of the overhead that comes along with being a poker player? I have to bet the entire way, there was never any reason to not bet. Except for maybe his calm composure (usually he's a "thinker" and thinks forever). I must be playing online too much.

----

Well, I'll comtemplate this problem as I enter this 20+2 LHE on Ultimatebet. It was a $2500 guar. with only 20 people!! well, until 5 minutes before the tourney... and now I can't be removed. crap. I guess I'll learn how to really play LHE very quickly. Like being chased like a murderer and learning how to use a bow-and-arrow very quickly.

Pray for me. Top prize is over $600... but we keep approaching the "overlay" limit. This should be fun. [/sarcasm] Hopefully it's a long night!

High Point University.. the stepping stone to poker greatness.

or not...

Its been tough here. Higher stakes, bigger pots, and more LAG than a Win95 Server running Battlefield 2. Winning a 70 dollar pot with a hidden set, to losing 3 $20 buy-ins in an 8 hour marathon. Compare this to the 5 dollar lunch table games back home... damn.

***

I'll actually start posting now, considering all this free time I have.. especially at 1 in the morning. Oh yeah.. and I have to get up in 6 hours to go run 12 miles. I heart Division I Cross Country.

***

So, with the expense of my very low, stagnant bankroll, I've learned alot about position, and how playing "any 2" can actually be profitable.. ESPECIALLY at the short-handed tables. For example... after 30 minutes of the LAG experiment.. I finally get AA. So I raise my usual 5x BB amount, and get called in 3 places. AKJ flops... I get the pot, get raised all-in by UTG. MP folds.. I call. He flips over..... K5o.

Wow.

And this guy was T/AG not 5 minutes ago... until I stole about 3 pots from him when he missed the flop with his overcards :D

***

I'm learning, and with a free 5 dollar coupon from Pacific Poker, building the bankroll up again. My goal is 100 dollars by next weekend (definately possible), cashing out, and then hitting up the MTT's at Pokerstars. Which.. BTW..
